Description

Volume 1 only. Boards rubbed. Hinges gapping but holding together. Yellow endpapers a bit darkened. First few pages detached but present with moderate foxing. Very light foxing throughout the rest of the book and with faint, extremely light marginal waterstaining ; Extremely rare. INSCRIBED by two of the Burns brothers in ink, on blank page facing frontispiece, dated March 7, 1853, Cheltenham, reading: "To Mrs. James Platt with the Kind wishes of two of the Bard's Sons". Included is a note of provenance from when the book was handed to a friend 99 years after the first presentation. - "The Landscapes from paintings made expressively for the work, by D. O. Hill, Esq. R. S. A. ". 1/2 leather binding with gilt spine lettering and decoration. Five raised bands. All edges gilt; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 105 pages
