Description

LIMITED EDITION, SIGNED by the illustrator Arthur Szyk, number 643 of only 1950 copies. Illustrated with remarkable illuminated miniature paintings in 6 colours by Arthur Szyk. Large 4to, bound in 3/4 white sheepskin over white vellum paper, with gilt lettering label on the spine. The upper cover is pictorially decorated in gilt by Arthur Szyk with a depiction of Job, the man of Uz, his hands spread in a gesture of infinite patience. Housed in the publisher's original gilded paper-covered slipcase. 160 pp. The meat and gravy of this title, the Book of Job text and Arthur Szyk's stunning plates, are all in very fine condition. The preface has some reasonably neat and unobtrusive underling in red ink. The binding is strong and sturdy but as is tall too often the case with this book, the soft sheepskin has cosmetic wear at the hinges and edges. The slipcase with some edge wear but the gold paper still bright and the case itself still sturdy and strong.
