Based in part on a previously lost manuscript, this is an account of Bering's famous expedition that established the true position of America in relation to Asia, showing that the two continents were not connected, and brought back the first authentic account of the natives of the Aleutian islands and the American mainland. Translated from the Danish work of the 1733-1743 expedition by M. A. Michael, who also provides an excellent historical introduction. Nerhood 82: 'a detailed description of Kamchatka and the Sea of Okhotsk'. Ricks 251.
