En 1917 el intelectual Enrique Matta Vial procedió a la fundación de la Revista Chilena, que abordaba temáticas de investigación histórica orientadas hacia la actualidad chilena. Continuó apareciendo períodicamente hasta 1930. Sus directores fueron: Enrique Matta Vial, entre 1917 y 1921; Guillermo Feliú Cruz y Enrique Matta Figueroa, entre 1922 y 1924; Ernesto Barros Jarpa y Jorge Gustavo Dávila, en 1925; Ernesto Barros Jarpa, 1926; Ricardo Dávila, en 1927; y Félix Nieto del Río, entre 1928 y 1930.
