large 8vo [25 x 17 cm]; xi, 287 pp, 5 double-page plates and 83 other illus, from photos and drawings, tables, index. original green cloth, gilt spine title lettering and title lettering in black on cover, cover a bit spotted, front blank endpaper removed, very good and sound copy, interior is clean, unmarked and fine. A picture of this book is available upon request by Buller, a professor of botany and acclaimed researcher of fungi and mushrooms, provides a major contribution to the physiology, morphology and physics of reproduction in the Hymenomycetes and also a record of some observations upon the discharge of spores of Asomycetes and of Pilobulus. Detailed and scholarly, with excellent illustrations, the author also describes his research methods and apparatus. This book was quite successful and popular and later became a series of several volumes, but this edition did not indicate there would be later volumes.
