- Ex officina Hadriani Schoonebeek., Amstelodami (Amsterdam) 1695, In-12 (9x16cm), relié. - The rare first edition, with a frontispiece and 61 illustrations. Brown sheep, spine with decorated raised bands, roulette to head and foot, red morocco title piece. Three corners bumped. A good and fresh copy. The work puts together on two pages an extract from a literary work and its interpretation by Smids, as well as an illustration of a mythological scene by Schoonebeek (Alcestis, Hercules, Medea, Oedipus, etc.). The latter was a student of Romain de Hooghe, whose influence is clearly visible. This work is a magnificent example of the baroque illustrated book, alongside the La Fontaine of Romain de Hooghe. [FRENCH VERSION FOLLOWS] Edition originale, rare, illustrée d'un frontispice et de 61 figures. Reliure en pleine basane brune. Dos à nerfs orné, roulette en queue et tête. Pièce de titre en maroquin rouge. Trois coins émoussés. Bon exemplaire, d'une belle fraîcheur. L'ouvrage rassemble sur deux pages un extrait littéraire et son interprétation par Smids, et une figure illustrant un épisode mythologique par Schoonebeek (Alceste, Hercule, Médée, Œdipe.). Ce dernier fut l'élève de Romain de Hooghe dont l'influence est clairement visible. L'ouvrage constitue l'un des fleurons du livre baroque illustré avec le La Fontaine par Romain de Hooghe.
