8vo [24 x 16 cm]; xi, 376 pp, chronology, map, index. original cloth, gilt spine title lettering, slight cover wear, else near fine, clean and unmarked in dj (price clipped, edges worn, frayed and chipped). A picture of this book is available upon request by email. The author was on Allenby's staff in World War I and knew Lawrence and Weizmann, as well as all the other important persons and writes of the area with considerable knowledge and insight, with sections on peace conference, colonial office, the mandate, Israel, Suez, etc, and with an epilogue. He had earlier written the acclaimed Birds of Arabia, Birds of Egypt and Kenya Diary. This first US edition is in slightly larger format than the London edition.
