First Edition, Fourth Printing. With a very great number of illustrations both in the text and on full-page plates, rendered in colours, sepia and black and white throughout. Thick Folio, publisher's original maroon cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine panel, in the illustrated dustjacket. xiv, 786 pp. A very fine copy, looking as pristine, but with some old evidence of damp to the lower margins of pages towards the end of the volume, some crinkling at the lower edges, generally without staining or evidence other than the crinkling.
