ONE OF ONLY TEN (10) AD PERSONAM COPIES PRINTED ON ANTIQUE JAPANESE PAPER OF THE FIRST EDITION. 292 pp. This tragedy is fictitious reconstruction of the last days in the life of France's Soldat Inconnu (unknown soldier), a casualty of the Great War who has lain underneath the Arc de Triomphe since 1920. It was extremely popular between the wars in both France and Germany. This copy was printed for Georges Ricou, co-director of the OpÈra Comique from 1925 to 1931. BOUND IN IS RAYNAL'S ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT TREATMENT FOR THE WORK, WITH NUMEROUS CORRECTIONS AND REVISIONS. Squarish 8vo. Elegantly bound in contemporary three-quarters morocco, spine gilt. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Original wraps and backstrip preserved. Silk ribbon page marker. FINE AND BRIGHT, WITH NO DEFECTS.
