8vo [21.5 x 14.5 cm]; x, 268 pp, frontis, numerous illustrations from photos, endpaper maps, bibliog, index. original cloth, gilt spine lettering, dj (chipped at edge, not price clipped), small signature on endpaper, interior is clean and very good in near fine cover in good jacket. A picture of this book is available upon request by email. This well known author of Latin American travel books travelled extensively through Honduras by rail, plane, mule, burro, but, boat and by foot, and described nature and the archeology. He studied the rare quetzal, the sacred bird of the Maya, as well as the Toltecs and Aztecs, and the ancient Mayan city of Copan. One of the illustrations is the first photograph ever taken of the Quetzal.
