The Epitome of Pompeius Trogus' "Historiae Philippicae" has only come down to us in the excerpts by Justinus (3rd or 4th cent.). The original text, in forty-four books, was a general history of the world concentrating on the Macedonian Empire founded by Philip II and the Hellenistic kingdoms. The work begins with Ninus, founder of Nineveh and ends in the year A.D. 9.
