8vo [23 x 15.5 cm]; xii, 117 pp, engraved frontis portrait, 45 fine color lithographed (chromolithographs) plates, other illustrations from photos, index. contemporary half leather, scuffed, gilt lettering on spine, raised bands, marbled boards and edges, binding signed by U. Holzer, Boston, internally clean, bright and fine, in very good cover, presentation copy signed by the author, Jan. 1907. A picture o The author described and illustrated butterflies he believed were new to science. The attractive colored plates by B. Meisel, illustrate from one to four butterflies. The author describes the butterfly collecting trip by William Gerhard where he travelled in Bolivia over a period of more than a year in 1898 and 1899, based on Gerhard's letters and photos.
