A picture of this book is available An excellent and early production on the gardens of the Northeastern US, with charming illustrations and well-written text, including detailed descriptions of the plants used. The eight color plates are from paintings by Herbert Faulkner. It "has occupied an almost unique niche for years. It gives practical advice on how to establish barriers to enable gardens to survive and gives lists of plants suitable for planting near the sea". (Hedrick and Woodburn).
