8vo [23 x 16 cm]; xx, 542 pp, frontis and illustrations from photos on plates, map showing author's route, bibliog, index. original cloth, gilt spine title lettering, top edge gilted, internal hinge cracked but firm, endpaper signature, cover lightly rubbed, interior is clean and very good. A picture of this book is available upon request by email. The author wrote an earlier book on Venezuela and Columbia, entitled 'Up the Orinoco and Down the Magdalena; Following the Conquistadors'. He continues following the conquistadores in this sequel, through Peru, Ecuador and western Bolivia around Lake Titicaca and into Amazonia, via Iquitos, up the Amazon past Manaos as far as Para at the river's mouth. He wrote later books including Through South America's southland on Roosevelt's expeditions, also in the following the conquistadors's series. Spain & Spanish America I, 751.
