Description
“I can’t really tell you what art is,” – Fabio Mauri wrote – “but I can tell you what an artwork is.” The work of art as a place of identity, like the story in which our existence is situated. And the place of identity of the truest kind is the story in which our existence is situated. History for Mauri, who was born in 1926, is that of the Second World War, which had just ended and was still present and strongly felt, an indelible source from which to draw great images by constantly combining media and materials: from the white canvases of the 1950s, to theatrical performances, and to installations and projections on supports that differed each time. Mauri’s poetics, of great ethical as well as aesthetic value, extract objects that become the indelible memory of our existence from the relentless flow of history. (T-CA)
