8vo [22 x 15 cm]; 2 volumes, xii, 443; viii, 478, [ii, ads] pp, frontis in each volume, extra title page with vignette in each volume, folding map (neat repair on verso), half title for each volume is present, other map and illus from drwgs, index. new cloth, gilt spine title lettering, library ink and blind stamps, number on verso title, archival repair to margin, minor foxing on few leaves but overall clean set, good sound binding. A picture of this book is available upon request by email. Sabin 9498. Borba de Moraes I, 137: 'In this classic work Burton describes his journey from Rio to Minas via Tres Barras, the River Velhas, Penedo and the Paul Alfonso Falls. There are two issues of this edition'. Penzer 78: 'for the first issue' the map faces page 1 of volume II'. There was also a remainder issue, which had no illustrations and was presumably with the same date.
