Second edition (the first appeared in Rome, 1681) of this treatise, divided into two parts, which belongs to the group of scientific works composed by this prolific author in the last years of his life. The work deals with various chemical and physical phenomena, including, marginally, wine and beer; and it is praised especially for “the manner of expounding things with such politeness as may suit science” (Gamba). Daniello Bartoli was an Italian Jesuit writer and historiographer, celebrated by the poet Giacomo Leopardi in his Zibaldone as the ‘Dante of Italian prose'.
