8vo [23 x 14.5 cm]; xxi [iii] 321pp [2p, ads], frontis (port), 24 illus, many full-page, 3 folding maps (including large map which is supplied in photocopy), 1 map with 8 cm tear, tables in text. original blind-stamped & gilt cloth, rebacked preserving almost all of spine and original boards, old inkstamp erased, corner wear, very good solid copy, presentation copy from the author to British Consul in Callao with his stamp. Griffen 5912: "his work is a valuable source for data on trade, agricultural colonies, immigration, and especially on the province of Santiago del Estero." A good description of conditions at the time including economics and politics, geography, the illustrations being engraved by C. W. Sheeres include full-page views of Buenos Aires, Rosario, etc.
