Description

This is a very good softcover portfolio with text and illustrations, loose sheets, contained in a folder. Glassine wrapper has chips. SIGNED by Magda Donato the wife and widow of Salvador Bartolozzi, (1882- 1950) and warmly inscribed to a colleague, dated Mexico 1964. The essay by Antonio Espina is in Spanish, English and French. There are 30 loose plates, some in color, some monochrome. Bartolozzi was born in Spain and attained his first fame there as an illustrator and writer of children's books. In the 1920's he created a Spanish 'Pinocchio' character that was a hit. He also worked as a set designer in plays by Federico Garcia Lorca and Miguel de Unamuno. In the 1940's he and his wife and collaborator Magda Donato, fled fascist Spain through France and eventually to Veracruz, Mexico. He died in Mexico City in 1950. 13" high X 10" wide. Uncommon. Large book, foreign shipping will be extra. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.
