Description

With 1 facsimile plate. XIII, 562 pp.; 579 pp., (1) p. corrigenda. 8vo. Somewhat later smooth calf, spines with 2 labels, gilt double fillets around sides, gilt outer edges and inner dentelles, e.g. London, printed for Harding and Lepard; and for G. B. Whittaker, 1827. Nice set of Dibdin's (1776-1847) first published work of importance, which, when published in 1802, brought him to the attention of Lord Spencer, his lifelong patron. The present, definitive edition is entirely rewritten, and contains for the first time an account of the best editions of the Hebrew Bibles and of the Greek and Latin Fathers. Dibdin remains best known for his "Bibliotheca Spenceriana" (1814-15) and the Roxburghe Club of which he was the originator and vice-president. The plates show a page of the Complutensian Polyglot Bible. - Very slight even browning. - Bohatta/Hodes, p. 56. BIBLIOGRAPHY ;
