TWO VOLUME SET. RARE comprehensive monograph on the life and works of an eminent Italian painter of the Sienese school Ambrogio Lorenzetti (or Ambruogio Laurati; c. 1290-1348), active from approximately 1317 to 1348. He painted 'The Allegory of Good and Bad Government' in the Sala dei Nove (Salon of Nine or Council Room) in Siena's Palazzo Pubblico. His elder brother was the painter Pietro Lorenzetti. Vol.1 contains the text and 8 color plates, vol.2 contains 235 b&w plates/illustrations. [BOTH VOLUMES]: 305x230mm. [XII+158 pages] + [235 plates]. Dark-blue cloth Hardcover with illustrated dust-jacket. Jacket spine faded/yellowing. Jacket edges and corners worn/wrinkled. Spine edges bumped. [VOL.II]: Jacket spine upper edge partly torn and rear bottom corner partly missing. Cover upper corners slightly bumped. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare two-volume pioneering examination of an artist who, Vasari called "a great philosopher" is in good condition. PLEASE NOTE: This item is overweight.
